Road Trip

My parents just returned from a road trip. They went to Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Youngstown NY and Niagra Falls/Canada among other stops. My mother asked me to edit her pictures, these were so beautiful....like postcards, thought I would share!

Canoeing

We had family in town this weekend, Big Daddy's Aunt Carol and Uncle Jim as well as Big Daddy's twin brother and his family. We hosted lunch on Saturday and then went canoeing and kayaking down Buck Creek and into the Cahaba in Helena. It was a five mile trip, it took us about three hours, for we made stops along the way. One of the favorite stops was a rope swing the kids enjoyed. I was in complete awe of the beauty less than 2-3 miles from my home. I have lived in Helena for 11 years and in the area for 38 and was ashamed that I had not done the trip sooner. But Big Daddy and I plan to make up for lost time, we have already been looking at kayaks so we can do this much more often.

Early Readers

My nephew Sam,(age 4) on the right, loved having my son "J. Smooth" (9 years) read to him. Sam kept bringing Smooth books for him to read aloud, all of the books, Dr. Seuss. Glad he is so interested.

This Old House

They just dont make homes with the charm of yesteryear. Perhaps is does come with age....but I also think it's in the architexture and in the details that older homes just seem to have. This old house is located in Hapersville and is now home to a consignment business called, "Deal Pickles".

Friendly Support

My friend, Deborah opened a retail shop called Harvest Moon. It's a "flea market" type shop.
Janet and I went to lend our support and paused long enough to mark the occassion.

Jasmine in my Mind

"Summer Breeze makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind."
I am quite certain that nothing smells as heavenly as jasmine. This jasmine belongs to my mother. She has it trained to grown over the nook to her door. I think it looks like a fairy tale cottage.

Chess

Many, many years ago Tom's grandmother and grandfather made this chess set.
Grandpa constructed the chess box like a suitcase, inside it holds the figures. Grandma made and painted the figurines.

When my husband was a boy, he learned to play chess on that set. Today he teaches his son.

And one day it is my hope, Jack will do the same.

Family Day

We spent a family day today. We ate breakfast at Cracker Barrel where the kids enjoyed a game of checkers, afterwards we went for a walk followed by smoothies at our local coffee shop, La Reunion. We lingered for a while and played cards.

"It's a Major Award"

I was thrilled to find out that I had won the giveaway on Maya's blog, Completely Coastal.
What did I win, you ask?
So glad you did ask, because I am dying to show you!
I won this glicee canvas print of a seahorse.

The canvas is literally as big as the leather chair in my den. I didnt expect it to be that big.
I'm so excited to own this piece. I am going to put it in my bedroom or in my bathroom suite, both of which have a coastal theme. The artist is Gerri Hyman of Outer Banks Trading Company. If you would like to order a print from Gerri, or to see more of her art pieces, click here.

Almost 2 years ago, artist Gerri Hyman started this endeavor by creating a few designs of lively and whimsical sea creatures to reproduce and turn into decorative products. Gerri was inspired not only by summers spent on the South and North Carolina coasts, but also by numerous trips to warm, tropical locations. Her creations are not meant to be too realistic in color and shape; but are representative of the sea life, fowl, and foliage on her imaginary island... better known as My Island.

Gerri is a graduate of the University of SC and lives in upstate SC with her husband, Gary, 3 sons, and 3 cats. Several times a year, My Island expands to include new designs and products so visit them at http://www.myislandllc.com/

How Does your Garden Grow?

With a lil help from sunshine and rain, my tiny tomatoes are coming right along. Its tradition to plant these each year. My children eat the cherry tomatoes like candy. They love them and look forward to them each summer!
